2017 Annual Picnic Concludes Another Great Season!

Image description

3/28/17 Tuesday, Veterans Park: It was a perfect ending to another great season as 225+ players and guests attended the 27th annual CCSS picnic. Picnic coordinator Ned Bentz and crew did a terrific job setting up the event insuring all had plenty of food and an all-around good time. Bob Schreyer, standing in for Dan Balagna, welcomed all and requested a moment of silence in memory of departed CCSS players and our boys serving in our Armed Forces. There were many people to thank for making the league the success that it is: League Founder, Max Hurt and Jim Kirby (deceased), our gracious and most generous sponsor Ted Todd, our equipment and uniform supplier Jeff Frey. Also, all the volunteers who serve the league: our board of directors, team managers, various committee members, and most importantly...our terrific players. Then it was on to awards as Frank Galuppo announced Leo Allen, Tols Mihailoff, and John Truitt for the "Hall of Fame" award and Dick Furgal presented Patty Sullivan, George Berry and Roger White with the "Sportsmanship" award (please see photos below for all award winners). Bob Schreyer presented the winning team awards: Team Clukey, 1st half Majors; Team Galuppo, 2nd half Majors; Team Sima, 1st half AAA; Team Fee, 2nd half AAA. The CCSS overall 2017 league championship was awarded Team Cline, Majors and Team Gardner, AAA.  In all, I want to personally thank all who serve our league and once again I am proud to be a part of CCSS. Photos below. Have a great summer! Bob Schreyer-- Photos: many thanks to Shery Bernstein, Ron Bluestein, Gary Bowers, and Bill (and Peggy) Shields.

                                   Opening Day 2017.........

1/10/17,Tuesday, North Collier Regional Park:  Collier County Senior Softball opened its 27th season with a full schedule of games, traditional ceremonies and great January weather. Commissioner Dan Balagna got things started by acknowledging all those who make our league possible: Our board of directors, managers, umpires, the administrative and maintenance personnel at North Collier Park, our most generous sponsor Ted Todd,  our recreational division staff, the competition committee and last but certainly not least, our players. Dan also acknowledged with a moment of silence, our former players, our Armed Forces and those who have died for our freedom.  Special recognition was given to our founding fathers, Max Hurt and Jim Kirby, and recent SPA and SSUSA HOF recipients Al Murray and Jim Bavis. Dan also mentioned the recent victories of the Naples based teams in the January Florida Half Century: Royal Crush 75's, Team Florida 60's (Jim Lyle sponsor), Team Venom 70's (Pete Takos sponsor), Team Lauer 60's. Other participating teams in the FHC were Collier Classics 65's and The Blaze 70's. As a tribute to our great country, our "National Anthem" and Kate Smith's "God Bless America" completed another terrific opening day. Bob Schreyer
